Hi,
I've recently installed a fresh opensuse 12.2 on my laptop. Unfortunately, I forgot the hostname configuration during installation.
I didn't find the default very appealing, it was linux-vtwl. So, I went to yast->network devices->network settings->hostname/dns.
There I set hostname and domainname. (I've also tried setting assign hostname to loopback, but it doesn't change anything.)
I also edited /etc/HOSTNAME manually. (Why doesn't yast do that for me!?)
It seems that this procedure broke parts of my system. The hostname is set. Ie it appears in the shell prompt and with the hostname command.
However, when I try to nslookup it, I get some random ip address which is completely unrelated to my home network. Furthermore, it broke samba. Whenever I try to view the windows network in the file browser it takes forever and failes, stating that it couldn't get the list of hosts.
What step did I miss? Why is it so hard to simply change the hostname?
Cheers!
