ASM1042 SuperSpeed USB Host Controller
Feb 5th 2013, 17:51

Hello,

I have a Shuttle XPC SH67 that has two front USB 3.0 ports that do not work. AFAICT, these ports are controlled by USB Controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1042 SuperSpeed USB Host Controller. The rear USB 3.0 ports seem to be controlled by USB controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 05). The rear USB 3.0 ports work just fine. No problems.

Sometimes the ports work when I insert a thumbdrive (2.0 and 3.0), but after I remove the thumbdrive they stop work. If I reinsert the thumbdrive, nothing appears in dmesg. Sometimes the ports don't even work the first time.

I know the ports are OK since they seem to work when I bootup off of a clonezilla DVD. Also, the BIOS recognises the drive during the pre-boot messages. Finally, when the computer is off, I can plug in my mp3 player and it will recharge just fine.

It seems that the problem is isolated to just openSUSE 12.2. It's the only OS I have installed on the computer.

Anyone else having this problem? Is there anyway I can force the front USB ports (ASM1042) to use the EHCI module rather than the XHCI module?

My system:
Shuttle XPC SH67
Intel i7-3770 Ivy Bridge
16 GB DDR3 RAM
openSUSE 12.2 64bit
