Questions about package versioning in the different repos
Dec 9th 2012, 18:34

I noticed when switching to Tumbleweed that the packages in the "current" repositories are often lower versions than those in the "12.2" repositories.

What I mean is that I had just a regular, updated 12.2 install until last night when I made the switch to Tumbleweed, which included switching from the "12.2" repos to the "current" repos. Now if I go into Yast Software Management and look at the packages listed in the "current" repos, many of them are red, meaning that the version in the repository is actually older than the already installed version.

Why are packages in "current" older than packages in "12.2"? I don't understand how the versioning works here. Is "current" not getting updates that the official "12.2" repo is getting? Or does it just appear that packages are older, but the version numbers are just reported differently?
