Help with VMware 8.0 installation
Oct 31st 2012, 23:06

Howdy,

Im trying to install VMware workstation 8.0, I've run the script and the installation finished ok, but when I try to execute VMware it doesn't start the services

My steps were

chmod +x [VM.....ware.bundle]

sh [VM.....ware.bundle]

After the installation I went to applications to start the program, but it gives the next message

"Before you can run VMware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel."

Here I've 2 choices "cancel" or "install" if I choose install it gives the next message:

"Couldn't execute « ''\''/usr/bin/vmware-modconfig'\'' --icon='\''vmware-workstation'\'' --appname='\''VMware'\'' --gcc='\''/usr/bin/gcc'\'' --headers='\''/lib/modules/3.4.11-2.16-desktop/build/include'\'' --gcc-ignore-minor '»."

I've tried to install kernel-headers kernel-devel and gcc but it was already installed in the system

When I run vmware in a terminal the kernel module updater starts compiling the next:

- Virtual machine monitor .......... OK
- Virtual network device ............. (attention icon)
- VMware blocking filesystem .....(attention icon)
-Virtual machine communication interface ......OK
-VMCI sockets .......... OK

After that it shows a message saying "Unable to start services"

Can someone knows why this happens?

Thanks in advance,
